MEXICAN CONSULATE VISITAND HEALTH FAIR

On August 20th and 21st Klamath Community College (KCC) and the Healthy Klamath Coalition’s Hispanic Health Committee hosted a successful visit of the Mexican Consulate, whose staff traveled from Portland to provide passports and other consular services to nearly 400 attendees.

KCC leadership joined forces with Klamath County Public Health to organize a family-friendly health fair on August 20th. Health and human service agencies staffed booths to provide resources to our Hispanic community. A vaccination team administered free COVID-19 shots and children enjoyed a bouncy house and other fun activities. An attorney was on site to provide immigration information. More than 400 people were treated to a free lunch.

Additionally, the Klamath Basin Oral Health Coalition collaborated with Medical Teams International to bring a mobile dental unit where Klamath Health Partnership dentists provided emergency services such as assessments, fillings and extractions.

Health fair organizers expressed appreciation to the community partner agencies who participated, as well as to all those who attended the event. We hope to have the opportunity to serve this unique population again during a future consulate visit.
