Klamath Grown- Meet Sarah Akbari
When I moved to Klamath Falls just a couple of months ago, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But so far, everyone I’ve met has welcomed me with open arms and a willingness to share their story. In this season of gratitude, I am so thankful for the kindness you have all shown me and the unique experiences I’ve had during my time here.
My name is Sarah Akbari and I am a RARE (Resource Assistance for Rural Environments) AmeriCorps member working with Klamath County OSU Extension Service and Klamath Grown, a new non-profit that aims to strengthen our local food system. The mission of the RARE AmeriCorps Program is to increase the capacity of rural communities to improve their economic, social, and environmental conditions, through the assistance of trained members who live and work in communities for 11 months.
I'm so grateful to be working with people who share my passion for creating a more sustainable food system. Through my work, I hope to show everyone the incredible diversity of food within the Klamath Basin. I’m especially excited about continuing to meet local producers, connect with community members and spread the word about Klamath Grown.
I'm also grateful for the numerous organizations that have supported Klamath Grown along the way, many of whom made it possible for me to be here doing this important work. South Central Oregon Economic Development District (SCOEDD) was awarded the USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) Grant on behalf of Klamath Grown. This grant will enrich the projects I am currently working on with Klamath Grown and pave the way for more exciting work to be done in the future. Thank you all for welcoming me into your community and supporting not only me, but Klamath Grown, as well.
