2023
Moai Challenge
Welcome to this years 2023 Moai Competition! This will be our first walking challenge since pre-covid and are excited to get it going again!
What is a Moai?
A Moai roughly translates to “meeting for a common purpose”. A Moai is a group of people that get together at regular intervals for 10 weeks. The term originates from Okinawa, Japan, where parents form their children into groups when they turn five years of age as a way to instill a sense of livelong social connectedness. Many of the centenarians living in Okinawa have been with their Moai for 80 to 90 years.
What does the competition look like?
This competition will focus on time spent together physically moving each week.
Each week a “ring leader” from the group will track and submit the teams minutes moved.
Each week HK will send out an email letting everyone know the competition stats
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in two different brackets. The Mega Moai bracket will consist of businesses that have over 100 people. The Mini Moai bracket will consist of businesses under 100 people.
A prize will also be awarded for the most clever Team name.
Why does Healthy Klamath want to run a Moai Competition?
Healthy Klamath wants to use the Moai structure as a vehicle to help people feel more connected and fulfilled within the workplace. We would also like to create a culture in Klamath Falls where a person’s health and wellbeing are important.
